Knee cartilage degradation is an endemic disease with 15% of people over 55 years of age having knee pain in Europe. In certain cases, transplantation would be the right therapy but while there is no immunology problem with cartilages the geometry has to match as it is a rigid tissue. We have been collaborating with Uzsoki Hospital (one of the largest hospitals of Hungary) to develop an AI algorithm to help match donors with recipients for knee cartilage transplantation surgery. We have already performed a transplantation with excellent results and we’re expecting a fully assembled prototype by the end of 2022.
